Active little guy
Today Carmen is at 15 weeks and two days. We just returned from the doctor where we heard the heartbeat for the first time!
Carmen: Probably the best moment so far! At first I heard this whooshing sound which I thought was the baby, but it was just me! He found the baby pretty quickly, it's surprisingly low down, and in the background you could hear this little pitter patter, which was completely distinct from the noise my heart was making. But the craziest thing was that it moved at least 4 times while we were listening! I have never heard of that happening before! I think it might be that we are quite far along to be hearing the heartbeat, so it's stronger and easier to hear. The doctor said it was very active! I instantly started tearing up...it made it seem so very real. There is actually a little baby in there! For those who are interested in this stuff, the heart beat was 145 and my uterus measured 8cm, which he said is quite small.
David: Well, Carmen pretty much covered it all. First of all, we were very relieved to find out there was only one in there. I didn't really know what to expect because our doctor is like a cute little robot who doesn't say too much. But he was a lot more helpful this time. Once he put the little thing on Carmen's stomach, it took me a while to figure out which was the baby's heartbeat. Actually, I heard it move a couple of times before I heard the pulse, which was very cool. The doctor says it sounded like the baby was making a swinging motion with it's right leg...so I'm not sure what that means. We didn't listen for very long before he took it off, but it was fantastic to finally have some communication. A little sidenote: there was an older lady in the waiting room named Olive Green. She just happened to be wearing an olive green outfit as well. Interesting isn't it?
Our next appointment is on November 30, at 9:10 am if anyone wants to come. The ultrasound will be about a week after that. Thanks again to everyone for checking this blog and caring about us.
PS. the posts will be going from top to bottom from now on.
I think that moment of hearing the heartbeat goes down in my books as one of the best moments of all time. Matt couldn't be there which was sad. Hannah was kicking the Doppler the entire time we were listening for her heartbeat. Speaking from experience that may mean and nasty "booter" throughout the pregnancy! Hannah kicked me so much and so hard that she bruised my ribs! Oh well it's better than hardly any kicking at all!

ReplyDeleteHey Guys,
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome! We are so thrilled for you guys. If you think that was great wait until you can actually hold your baby for the first time.
i don't know you - but i'm excited for you! & i hope to follow you on this journey of yours! good luck - the wait is well worth it!
ReplyDeleteHi Carmen!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say congratulations to you and David! Adam and I are very excited to know that someone else is also experiencing the same thing we are,and we can totally relate to a lot of things you have been writing about. Just wanted to respond to your question on whether or not no morning sickness is a sign that the baby is a boy - I experienced almost no sickness whatsoever, like you, and the ultrasound showed that the baby IS a boy! So that theory might have some truth to it, who knows! We are extremely excited - only 5 weeks left to go until we get to see this little one! And if it turns out to be a girl, we are completely happy with that too. One more thing - I completely understand about how nice it feels to actually start looking pregnant and not just chubby - it took me until about 6 months to finally start loooking pregnant, and even now at 8 and a half months, I still have kids asking me if I'm pregnant or just gaining a lot of weight! All the best to the three of you,
Susanna and Adam Yadlowsky
