Gyeonju, South Korea

Today we visited the historical city of Gyeonju. It is about an hour away from Daegu, so with a short taxi ride, a long subway ride and a 50 minute bus ride, we made it there. It was a really beautiful place. It is the former capital of Korea, and is therefore very well maintained. It calls itself a museum without walls because they have discovered thousands of artifacts from the Silla Dynasty, which I believe dates back to the 5th century.
Cate did so well. I always feel so terrible throwing aside her schedule because I know she needs her naps, but we are just dying to explore this country! People touch her all day long and she still keeps her cool, which amazes me.
Here are a couple pictures from today. I'm sure David will post a much more detailed and interesting post about our day, so watch for it.
Here is little Cate on the bus ride. No carseats. Anywhere. Have I mentioned that? It's so scary at first, but now we are pretty used to it. It's just interesting that we take such precautions in Western countries, and here those same things just don't matter as much. But really, there is no way to take a carseat in a taxi. So we go with it. Alison, I can't help but think that Cate looks a bit like Aria in this picture. Do you see it?
Here is the local Gyeonju paparazzi. We stopped to feed Cate lunch and when we stop, this is what happens. This was taken at the Bulguksa Temple. It is a very famous site in Korea. I am assuming these are Buddhist gods-but there were no English signs, so I can't be sure. They were huge, as you can see.

Cherry blossoms along the tombs of famous kings.

Other than that, tomorrow we are headed to Daegu Faith International Church. We attended another church a few weeks ago, but it was very small and very traditional, so we are hoping this will be a little more our style. Anytime we go somewhere new it is a big adventure.

And perhaps this will fit under " Amuse me, please". It was on the door of the washroom at the bus station. A real Western toilet- that only foreigners are supposed to use. haha. Oh, and I have to say to Kristin-I'm such a copycat. I could not figure out why Amuse Me sounded familiar-and there it is- a section on your blog. You must be annoyed. I'll find a new name :-)

  1. I love the constant paparazzi! I guess it will probably never get better with the amount of people...

Is Cate still getting sick while travelling?

    Love you.

I just read your entry about her birthday and how you are a little nostalgic and it reminded me to slow down and enjoy my pregnancy. Thanks for that. By the way...did your parents tell you we are expecting? I just assumed you would know. Hmmm. Well, we're due in Sept.
