I can't believe our weekend is over already!
As you know Friday was Cate's birthday. It was so hard for me to go to work that day, I cannot tell you. We gave her a couple little gifts in the morning before I left and she was soo sweet. One of the gifts was a musical phone and she started to wave her arms in the air to the beat every time the song came on. She was so happy. When I got home we had supper and gave her a chocolate chip muffin. :) It was all we could find that was cupcake-like, so we went with it. But it had a candle and she was pleased. We opened some more presents ( we really brought no toys with us to Korea, and we were feeling a little guilty) and then we went to the neighborhood park. It was a really nice evening. It's just so hard to believe that she has been in our lives for a whole year.
It looks like she is going to be one of those little girls that loves her dolls. My parents sent one with us to give to her, and she absolutley LOVES it. She will not let it out of her sight. She even holds it while she eats. It's really funny. We've never seen her attached to something like that.
On Saturday we had a little party for her. We invited my Korean co-teachers,our neighbors upstairs and the Friesen family who I spoke of earlier, all over to our teeny tiny house. We opened some presents and then my co-teachers performed a little Korean custom that is done for a 1 year old on his/her birthday. They laid out a bill, a mirror, a spool of thread, and a pencil. The idea is that everyone must watch to see what she picks because each object represents something about her life. The money obviously means wealth, the mirror means beauty and popularity, the thread longevity, and the pencil intellegence. Well our little gold digger went for the money. We were also lent a Korean Hanbok, which is the traditional Korean attire for special occasions. Cate absolutely hated wearing it, but we snapped a few pictures of her anyways.
Crazy Koreans :-)

Oh Cate!! You look so cute! I'm glad the birthday party went well, we wish we could've been there:)
