Corea, Flesh eating fish, and 1 week to go!
Now you'd be lying if you said you didn't want to know more about that title!
First of all, my big brother Corey came to Korea for a week and we had a really great time! We affectionately termed his visit as Corea. Although our itinerary was somewhat determined by a toddler's nap schedule, and he did have to sleep on the kitchen floor, we hope he had as good a time as we did! We spent a few days in Seoul where we did some shopping, went to the Yuk-Sam ( translation: 6-3 building, which is 63 floors and one of Seoul's tallest buildings) saw an ancient palace and had some delicious food! After Seoul we came back to Daegu and saw the sites and ate the food and before we knew it, the visit was over!
I think this picture is really funny. First of all, Cate was in love with Uncle Corey the moment she saw him and constantly wanted to be held by him. Here we were waiting for the subway train and he is trying to tell Cate it's coming, while I'm taking a picture of it with his camera. Meanwhile, Cate decides to pose for daddy's picture.
The promised kimchi picture.
Here's the view of one of the world's largest cities at night.
On the last day of Corey's visit, we got a special little spa treatment in the form of little Japanese fish eating the dead skin off your feet! I know, I know, you don't have to tell me how disgusting that is! We sat for half an hour, with our feet dipped in tons of little fish. They immediately come rushing for your feet, and it feels like tiny electric shocks. We were all ready to jet the moment we put our feet in, but we realized it was actually pretty cool. These fish are called "Dr.Fish" and they seriously make your feet so soft and smooth. Apparently this little treatment was featured on Ugly Betty at some point, though I haven't seen it.
Here are a few photos of the experience!
And with that, we have one week left in Korea. One week! Next Wednesday, bright and early, we will be renting a "jumbo taxi" to bring all of our luggage to the bus station. From there we'll take a one hour ride to Busan's Kimhae Airport and will fly for just a couple hours before we reach Beijing! We're busy arranging all the last minute details. I'm still working until Friday, and then we'll have a few days to finish up. We'll likely end up leaving most of our possessions ( that we used this year) in the alley in front of our apartment. A common Korean sight!
I'm sure I'll have one more, nostalgic post of Korea before we head out. But for now, we miss you and we love you and we can't wait to see you soooon!
My/our "patience" has finally paid off! Can't begin to tell you my dear how OFTEN I/we check this blog for a new post and TODAY I/we were rewarded. Thanks for putting something up. I know we "talk" to you on our family website and by phone but we still love reading about your adventures on this medium. Appreciate all the great photos even though we have seen them previously. All the best in your last few days in Korea and we are SO looking forward to meeting you when you arrive in Calgary!

Ok the fish thing - well I don't know how I feel about that. Seems kinda neat thing to do, once in a life time thing, but I don't think I could do it. I know, I guess I'm a bit of a chicken. I wonder if that's what the fish are saying?!
ReplyDelete'Hmmm, taste like chicken!' :)
So glad you guys had a good time hosting your bro and touring around with him and showing him the sites, what a special thing to share together. Hope all goes well in this last week, and that everything that needs to fall into place, will.
I want to personally thank the great "Corean" hosts! Guys I had such a wonderful time and I can't stop talking about it. I look forward to visiting your next home away from home in the future. (:

ReplyDeleteWow, you will probably be hearing this sort of message from lots of people but i have to say it too. I have been thinking of you guys in these last few weeks. Your parents came over last week saturday when we were home in Sask for our reading break. it was wonderful to see them and exciting to hear all about your fathers car selling ambitions. I think he is going to do well in that business. Anyways I miss you guys and am thinking and praying for you in this next week. I hope everything falls into place while you pack up and travel home. I won't see you at easter but Rachelle and I want to come to Calgary this summer so we must plan something. Cheers, safe travelling.
ReplyDeleteLove you lots!!
